Second Front members Great Escape (aka artist Scott Kildall) and Man Michinaga (aka Patrick Lichty, also the animator of The Yes Men) were special guests in De Hoeksteen Live! at the NIMk.  Interviewed by Prince Clause Fund director Els van der Plas.  Live on SALTO 1 TV (Amsterdam) + web.

They talked about the about the CPoV (“Critical Point of View”) Wikipedia Conference in Amsterdam where they did presentations. (Patrick Lichty: “This-presentation-might-get-me-killed”)

Furthermore about the virtual world Second Life and their performance art group Second Front in particular. And about new media in general.

True Stories presents: Jorien van Nes and Femke Wolting’s fascinating insight into online virtual worlds. Second Life, World of Warcraft, Metaplace, U World – all virtual worlds where the user can create their own paradise, far removed from real life. People can create societies that range from the democratic to the dictatorial, have avatars that resemble their ideal and can engage in actions that their real life personality would never dream of doing, from cyber-sex to virtual crime. But who creates these worlds and are they the right people to be crafting idealised societies that pretend to address and solve the inadequacies of the real world?

Voor miljoenen mensen is het virtuele universum een plek die steeds meer vervlochten raakt met hun echte leven. London Theatre Blog interview ‘Goodbye Dollar’ event

Andrew Eglinton, founder and editor of the widely-respected and profound London Theatre Blog held an interview with Joyce Timmerman (SL: Joyce Menjou) and Ze Moo. NL TV machinima premiere: ‘”Molotov Alva and The Search for the Creator”

Somehow historic: On november 7th 2008 a SL machinima movie premiered on national television in The Netherlands, after succes on the web.

A Second Life Odyssey

In this movie director Douglas Gayeton explores the online life of Molotov Alva, a Californian man who disapeared without a trace from ‘real life’. Suddenly he appears in Second Life with a series of 10 video dispatches.

In this Second Life adventure Molotov Alva encounters everything from Furries, to Cyberpunks to Neo-Luddites to Gorean Sex Slaves, to the King of the Hobos: Orhalla Zander, who becomes Molotovs guide as he searches for the creator of their brave new world.

This movie has been the best viewed video on Youtube for a while and it is also the very first SL machinima in history acquired by a major American television broadcast network: HBO

This cross-reality, information-art installation is our reply to this years Burning Man / Burning Life theme “The American Dream”. It is partly inspired by the Burning Man festival, partly inspired by the Terry Gilliam movie ‘Brazil’ (1984), and partly inspired by the article “Avatars consume as much electricity as Brazilians” by Nicholas Carr. Other inspirations into this interactive mixed media art piece come from various real global social, political and enviromental issues.

Next to this, Meta.Live.Nu at BL 2008 will also present some sculptures by invited artist Herman Bergson.
